Several members of the Secrets to Patents project are part of DEPTH – a research node for exploring digital methods within history research!

DEPTH is a new research node at Lund University studying how history and research is shaped by digital tools. Join us as we launch DEPTH with a seminar from Dr Christoph Sander, PI of the European Research Council (ERC) project SCIGMA, exploring the integration of digital humanities in historical research.

All are welcome to this launch! Students, researchers of any discipline and anyone interested both inside and outside academia.

This is the first of a series of interesting events within DEPTH. Explore digital methods of history research together with us!

Secrets to Patents

The Project

The Research Environment Secrets to Patents investigates the long-term history of how life-saving and health-improving medicines became for-profit commodities from 1500 to 1900. Focusing on the Atlantic Colonial Nexus, the project’s team will investigate the strategies that different historical agents used to claim ownership of medicinal knowledge.

Funding

Secrets to Patents has been generously funded by the Swedish Research Council (2025-2030) and hosted at Lund University (SE), in collaboration with the Centre for Privacy Studies at the University of Copenhagen (DK) and the History Department of Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (BR).
